Why natural gas?

It is so simple: with no fuel orders, no storage and no delivery dates, natural gas can be used flexibly and according to need. It has benefits for the environment, too, since natural gas causes much fewer emissions when burnt than solid or liquid fossil fuels.

It is so practical that almost half of all German households use it. Natural gas heating provides a cosy warmth, not just on cold winter evenings; our warm water also flows from the pipes at a pleasant temperature at all times. The advantages of using natural gas in the home are clear for all to see: it saves space because you don’t need an oil tank in the cellar, and most importantly, it is flexible, because natural gas is transported through the extensive gas network to consumers as they need it.

Environmentally sound on a small scale ...

When natural gas is burnt it leaves virtually no residue and it is also much more environmentally friendly than heating oil and coal in terms of CO2 emissions. This advantage can be exploited even more effectively thanks to modern equipment technology. Calorific value technology, for example, even uses the heat contained in the exhaust emissions.

... and on a big scale

The benefits of using natural gas are mirrored in its industrial use – one of the winning features of natural gas is its low emissions during combustion. When used in CHP power plants to generate electricity, the plants’ high efficiency rates also contribute to a positive result; for combined heat and power also uses the process heat to generate electricity.
Because of the many ways it can be used, natural gas is an important form of energy for meeting our increasing demand for fossil fuels – and it will remain so in the future, too.
